Medicine Search — 70,000+ Products from the NFZ Database in One App
Not just the medicines in your home medicine cabinet. You can now search the full database of medicines registered in Poland — find a medicine by name, check whether you already have it, and order what is missing with a single tap.
What Is Global Medicine Search?
Until now, the app only showed medicines you had previously scanned and added to your home medicine cabinet. Medicine search changes that perspective — it gives you access to over 70,000 medicinal products from the NFZ database without needing to have them at home first.
A single search is all it takes to find any medicine registered in Poland, check its active ingredient, manufacturer and classification — and, if you need it, go straight to purchase.
How Does the Search Work?
Search is available directly in the inventory tab, in the "Medicine database" segment (next to the "My medicines" tab).
- Switch the view to "Medicine database" at the top of the inventory screen
- Type the medicine name — results appear in real time, from the very first letters
- Browse the results — each entry shows the brand name, active ingredient, manufacturer and ATC code
- Check what you have — medicines already in your home medicine cabinet show a medicine cabinet icon. You know straight away that you do not need to buy them
- Buy or add — with a single tap you can proceed to purchase or view the medicine details
What Do You See on the Selected Medicine Card?
After you select a medicine from the search results, a detailed view opens with:
- Brand name and active ingredient (INN)
- Manufacturer and pharmaceutical form
- ATC code and classification (Rx / OTC)
- Inline summary of product characteristics (SmPC) — if mojApteczka has offline SmPC data for this active ingredient, all nine sections (indications, dosage, contraindications, etc.) are available without leaving the view
- A "Buy" button — takes you to search for the medicine in an online pharmacy
The Medicine Cabinet Icon — Know What You Already Have
For every medicine in the results, mojApteczka checks your local medicine database. If you already have that medicine in your home medicine cabinet, a medicine cabinet icon (⊕) appears next to the name. You do not need to remember whether Apap 500 mg is already in the cupboard — the app answers for you.
The comparison accounts for minor spelling differences and diacritics, so "Nurofen Forte" and "NUROFEN forte" are matched correctly.
Who Benefits from Medicine Search?
- When you are standing in a pharmacy and cannot remember whether a given medicine is already at home — one glance at the results and you know
- When you are looking for a substitute — find other products with the same active ingredient and compare manufacturers
- When your doctor prescribes something new — check the medicine before filling the prescription and read the SmPC
- When you are putting together a travel medicine kit — search medicines by indication and decide what to take with you
- When you are caring for an older parent — quickly find information about medicines that are not in your home medicine cabinet

Availability and Cost
Search uses a public NFZ endpoint — it generates no additional cost for the user. The feature requires an internet connection (results are fetched in real time), but the selected medicine card with SmPC documentation is available offline if the SmPC data has been synchronised previously.
Available in the iOS mobile app and the web version of mojApteczka.
Related Features
- Offline SmPC documentation — full active ingredient information available without the internet
- Medicine substitutes — find lower-cost equivalents with the same active ingredient
- Medicine interactions — check whether the selected medicine interacts with your home medicine cabinet
- Paediatric classification — assess medicine safety for children
Medicine search turns mojApteczka from a home medicine cabinet manager into a window onto the entire pharmaceutical market. Find any medicine in Poland — in seconds, without leaving the app.
Frequently asked questions
- How many medicines can I search for in mojApteczka?
- The search covers over 70,000 medicinal products from the Polish National Medicines Registry (NFZ). You can search by trade name, active substance, or manufacturer.
- How do I check if the medicine I am looking for is already in my kit?
- A kit icon appears next to each medicine in the search results if that product is in your local kit. The comparison is automatic and accounts for spelling differences and diacritical marks.
- Does medicine search work offline?
- Searching requires an internet connection because results are fetched live from the NFZ database. However, the selected medicine card with SmPC documentation is available offline if the SmPC data was previously synchronised to the device.
- Can I buy a medicine directly from the search results?
- Yes. Each medicine card has a "Buy" button that redirects to an external pharmacy search platform. We do not sell medicines directly — we redirect you to a platform where you can check availability and prices.
- How does medicine search differ from substitute search?
- Medicine search queries the entire NFZ database without restriction — just type any name. Substitute search is contextual — you open it from the card of a specific medicine you already have, and the app suggests products with the same active substance and dosage.
