Dispense medicine — measure the dose and confirm with one tap

Taking medicine is something we repeat every day — sometimes several times a day. For someone caring for a senior, a child, or multiple household members, the number of doses to administer in a single day can be overwhelming. The dispense medicine feature in mojApteczka turns this process into a simple, controlled action: pick the medicine, measure the dose, confirm — and the kit's stock updates automatically.

What is the dispense medicine feature?

Dispensing medicine is a mechanism that lets you record the fact that a specific dose was taken, directly from the medicine card in your kit. Instead of manually adjusting quantities and guessing how many tablets remain, one tap is enough — the system deducts the correct portion from stock and logs the event in history.

This is especially important when:

  • you administer several medicines daily at different doses and times,
  • you care for someone and need to track who took what, using the caregiver role,
  • you want to be sure the kit's stock reflects the actual number of doses left,
  • you rely on the shopping list to refill automatically when supplies run low.

How does dispensing work in mojApteczka?

The process is simple and takes just a few seconds:

  1. open the medicine card in your kit,
  2. tap the dispense button,
  3. the dose stepper lets you set the exact amount — including fractional doses (½ tablet, ¼ tablet, decimal values for liquids),
  4. choose the recipient — yourself, a family member, or a dependant,
  5. confirm — the server-side stock is updated instantly.

There is no risk that two people deduct the same dose simultaneously. The operation is atomic — the server guarantees that each confirmation reduces stock by exactly the specified amount, without conflicts.

Fractional doses — precision when it matters

Not every medicine is taken in whole tablets. Children often receive half or a quarter of a tablet, and liquid doses are measured in millilitres down to a fraction. That is why the dose stepper in mojApteczka supports:

  • halves and quarters of tablets — useful for paediatric dosing or gradual dose tapering,
  • decimal doses for liquids — when a syrup needs to be measured to, say, 2.5 ml,
  • any custom value — matched to the doctor's instructions.

This ensures that the recorded consumption matches the actual amount administered, rather than rounding up to a full unit.

What happens to the leftover dose?

When you dispense a fractional dose — for example, half a tablet — a prompt appears: what will you do with the rest? mojApteczka offers a simple choice:

  • I kept the rest — the other half goes back into the kit and will be available for the next dose,
  • I threw it away — if the tablet cannot be stored after splitting, the entire unit is deducted from stock.

This is a small but important mechanism. It keeps the kit's stock aligned with what you actually have on hand — no manual corrections, no surprises at the next dose.

Recipient picker — you are not just dispensing to yourself

In many households, one person manages medicines for the entire family. That is why, when dispensing, you can choose who the dose is for:

  • yourself — the default choice when you take the medicine yourself,
  • a family member — if you share a kit, for example with a partner or a parent,
  • a dependant — a senior, a child, or another person in your care.

Dose history is recorded separately for each recipient. This means the PDF report for the doctor clearly shows who took which medicine and when.

Automatic stock management

Every dispensed dose reduces the medicine's stock level. When stock drops below the set threshold, the medicine automatically appears on the shopping list. You do not need to manually check how many tablets remain — the system does it for you after every confirmation.

Combined with dosage reminders, this creates a closed loop: the system reminds you about a dose, you confirm it, the kit updates, and when supplies run low, the medicine gets priority on the shopping list.

Availability

The dispense medicine feature is available on all platforms — in the browser at mojapteczka.pl and in the mobile app on iOS and Android. Regardless of device, the process is the same: tap, measure, confirm.

How it connects with other features

Dispensing works best in combination with other mojApteczka features:

  • Dosage reminders tell you when the next dose is due,
  • Shopping list automatically flags dwindling supplies,
  • Expiry date alerts help make sure the medicine you are dispensing has not expired,
  • PDF report for the doctor lets you share the full dosing history during a visit,
  • Notes let you record extra information about administration — for example "take with food" or "do not mix with milk".

Important limitation

The dispense medicine feature is a tool for recording doses and managing kit stock. It helps maintain order and control over medicine consumption, but it does not replace a doctor's or pharmacist's advice on dosing, frequency, or method of administration.

Important: medicine dosing should always follow a specialist's recommendations. mojApteczka helps you record administered doses but does not determine which dose to take.

The dispense medicine feature in mojApteczka turns the daily dosing routine into a controlled, simple process. Measure the dose, confirm with one tap — and the kit takes care of the rest.
